Every year many people come to Amarnath to obeisance before Ice-Lingam of Lord Shiva. It is because of spiritual significance of this place that lots of hindus from world over come to this place.

It is believed that Lord Shiva chose Amarnath Cave place for recounting the secret of creation and immorality of universe to Parvati. Lord Shiva told her the story of why and when he started wearing the beads of heads. When Parvati asked him about the immorality; he said it is due to Amar katha.

Goddess Parvati insisted about the secret, after consistent demand Lord Shiva got ready to share the secret with her. … For this purpose he searched a lonely place where no one could listen, therefore he selected Amarnath Cave. Lord Shiva had once taken Samadhi in deer skin to start meditation. To ensure that no living creature can hear the immortal story, he formatted rudra to spread fire every where to eliminate every living being or thing in or around the Holy cave.

After that he started recounting the secret of immorality, but by chance one egg that was lying under the deer skin stayed protected. Moreover that was protected by the Shiva Parvati Asana. The pair of pigeon was born from that egg and became the only immortal listener.

Lots of pilgrims say that they have seen the pair of pigeons when they trek the difficult route for reaching Amarnath Cave to pay their obeisance before the Ice-Lingam.

According to another mythology, it is said that a Muslim shepherd (Bakerwaal) met a saint in the cave and the saint gave him a bag full of coal. When the shepherd reached home, he found that the coal was converted into gold.

This spread to the people in the entire region and from that time onwards, this place became a holy shrine. Even today, a part of the donations is given to the family descendents of that shepherd.
