Hogenakkal Falls – Hogenakkal or smoking rocks (in Tamil) situated in Dharmapuri district, 120 Kms from Bangalore has numerous waterfalls which makes it more beautiful. The famous ‘Theppa’ or coracle boats take one around the Kaveri River which forms these falls. It’s also famous for its hot oil full body massage by the local masseurs. Fried fish, Paniyaram(rice cakes)or Poli(Indian sweet) are some of the local dishes available. Hotel Tamilnadu , administered by Tamilnadu tourism department is the only sober place to stay . Other than this one can stay at Dharmapuri which is 50 Kms from Hogenakkal.
Talakadu and Shivanasamudram –Shivanasamudram or Shimsha falls comprises of beautiful waterfalls and is also the site of Karnataka’s first hydroelectric project whereas its neighbor Talakadu safeguards 5 submerged temples of historical importance built by hoyasalas dedicated to lord Shiva. These picnic spots are located 150 Kms from Bangalore and around 70 kms from Mysore .Gaganachukki and Bharachukki falls makes the Shivanasamudram falls. One can reach Bharachukki falls through a flight of steps whereas Gaganchukki is inaccessible. Other attractions are Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary and Sriragapatna .
