Places to See in SrinagarSrinagar is a city in the state of Jammu and Kashmir in India. It is the summer capital of the state and it is abundant with the natural resources. Gardens, rivers and lakes are the major tourist attraction of the city with houseboats floating on it along with beautiful gardens and abundant green woods.

The city attracts many tourists because of its romantic appeal to the public contributed by its lakes and garden. The charm of the city changes as the season change because every season has its own unique captivating beauty. The city not only has lakes and gardens but it also has several temples, waterways, unique houseboats and resorts.

The city is blessed with beautiful lakes. The Dal Lake is the most important attraction of the city. The lake is a labyrinth of waterways which consist of four water bodies namely Lokut Dal, Bod Dal, Gagribal and Nagin. The Wular Lake is the largest fresh water lake in India, which lay 32kms northwest of the city. Surrounded by huge mountains on the north and the north east of the valley, the lake reflects the simple beauty of the city.

As mentioned, not only that Srinagar has beautiful lakes, the city also has temples and shrines where the culture and history of the city are kept. The Hazratbal Shrine is a Muslim pilgrimage destination in the banks of Dal Lake in Srinagar. The shrine stores relics that reflect the devotion of the Muslim community to Prophet Mohammad.

The Shankaracharya Temple lies on top of the hill called Takht-e-Suleiman. It can only be visited through a trek to the hills because it lies at an altitude of 1100 feet above the main Srinagar city. The Khanqah-e-Molla is a shrine that is believed to have the “secret of Allah”. Because it is one of the oldest Muslim shrines of the city, it has great architectural design.  A mosque in Nowhatta is one of the major tourist spot of Srinagar and it is called the Jama Masjid.

There are other temples worth visiting once in Srinagar. These are Khir Bhawani Temple, Chatti Padshahi, Chashma Shahi and Pari Mahal, Nishat Garden and Shalimar Garden to name a few.
