Kargil is a very beautiful place located in the heart of Ladakh. With its mesmerising scenic beauty, it will definitely give you the impression of being in heaven. However it has recently got more attention and importance as a tourist place only after the Kargil war which was held between India and Pakistan in the year 1999. This beautiful place is located on the Leh-Srinagar highway but around 120 miles away from Srinagar. Kargil is very important from the security view as it is an important link connecting Kashmir and Ladakh. TheĀ site seeing places in Kargil include:
Village of Dras: This is a very small village which can be found on the extreme west of Kargil. In the entire continent of Asia, you will perhaps feel the maximum cold here. However the fantastic views which you are going to get here will really make you forget about the temperature and enjoy the very essence of the nature. Similarly in the summer, the place becomes lush green. For entertainment you can also find horse polo here. However the most interesting fact about this place is that, the people here still speak Shina language which very rare people in this world actually know.

Suru Valley: This is also a great attraction for tourists mainly because of its snow clad mountains. This is perhaps the most charming place in entire Ladakh and with the waterfalls and snow glaciers; this place is going to make you speechless with its beauty. The name of this valley comes because it touches river Suru far in the East.
Mulbekh: It is situated around 27 miles in the east of Kargil. You can see the 9 feet tall statue of Lord Maitreya, in this religious village. The point to note here is that the statue has been carved out from just one single stone.
Kargil is gaining more importance with passage of time, but still the scenic beauty is just amazing…
