The city is enriching with historical and cultural heritage, as well as it is beautifully surrounded by hills. The area covers about 10100 km ² and a population of about 2,897,013. It was ruled by Mughal Empire during the reign of Aurangzeb a long time ago and consequently it depicts little Mughal art and architecture. The city has many tourist attractions.
According to some historians, the modern city of Aurangabad was originated by Malik Ambar; the city has the former Prime Minister named Murtaza Nizam Shah II and Nizam Ahmednagara. Originally the town was named as Fatehpur. The modern name Aurangabad was probably during the reign of Aurangzeb between 1681 AD and 1707 AD.
Among the main attractions of Aurangabad is the most beautiful spot of the Bibi-ki-Maqwa. This is one of the best examples of Persian art and architecture. This crypt belonged to Rabia Durani, the wife of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. This is a kind of copy of the Taj Mahal in Agra.
Himroo factory put more attraction in Aurangabad. Himroo traditional fabrics are the blends of cotton and silk, made here. Paithan silk saris and shawls are woven on traditional looms are the main attractions of this plant. Five domes Chawk Shayista Khan Mosque which was made in 1665 and the Lal Masjid situated in the old city of Aurangabad are also important places to visit in this city.
Ajanta caves are yet another popular attraction of the city which got constructed way back to second century B.C. With the marvelous sculptures, and a total of 29 caves, it finds its place among the World Heritage list from UNESCO.
Ellora Caves were built by the Rashtrakuta Dynasty and it is believed it took them nearly a century to complete this cave. The art and sculpture reflects the Dravidian style of art.
Aurangabad is also the fortunate place to have the privilege of being the birth place of Sai Baba, the Shirdi. Located nearly 144km from Aurangabad, it has a very sacred shrine of Sai Baba and can be very easily accessible.
Other attractions include the Killa Arak, Gunja Imam Mosque and Panchakki are also places where you should visit on my recommendation when being to Aurangabad.
